Forrest King
I Bleed Ink supports any artist that supports the LGBTQ community. Forrest King does just that.
“Even with my Christian background, I have always felt that the people of the LGBTQ community did not deserve to be treated differently than anyone else. Then, it was more like, “We are all sinners, sin is sin.” Now, with more liberal views, I see the repression of the LGBTQ community as a modern social injustice, driven by religious fear and hate.
I have had to deal with this first hand, living in Cheyenne Wyoming near Laramie where Mathew Shepard was murdered; there is still an outstanding hatred for gays in this culture. I have gay friends who are told on a regular basis by seemingly rational people that they are going to hell, or that I should keep my children away from gay men because they are child molesters. It sickens me that so many people are still so blinded by “ignorant” righteous indignation.
I have always wanted to DO something. My fiance and I have taken a vow not to get married until everyone in America has the right to get married. I have decided to use my art to communicate the truth to the community. I had an art show in a coffee shop in Laramie which featured the first 4 paintings from my new line, “The Pink Triangle” which focuses on the legitimacy of lesbian love. The coffee shop received hate letters and I got harassing phone calls. No death threats though… pre-Shepard, I have no doubt it would have caused a riot.
I decided right away that I did not want to market this line to men. 99% of the time, Lesbians are depicted in a pornographic light, and that is far from my intentions. I want to show society the purity, passion, and reality of same-sex love between two women. Because it is not about the sex, its about the intense emotion found in these relationships.. So, this line is for the L & B ladies. The ones who know its not about porn or sex but L-O-V-E! You deserve the honor, and you do not deserve to be exploited for horny male entertainment. I plan to do 20 paintings for this line to be released sometime next summer, 2010. I want to coordinate with an LGBT organization and have a large exhibition event/ party to sell off the paintings as well as more affordable prints. 40% of the profits will be given to the LGBT community for awareness education and the fight for equal rights.”
